Postcards from the Edge project launched
10.11.2011
Last night saw the launch of a series of eight postcards, ‘Postcards from the Edge’, which features contemporary Irish writers at their place of work.
The project, organised by the Irish Literature Exchange, saw eight of Ireland's best-known authors being photographed: John Banville, Sebastian Barry, John Boyne, Marina Carr, Anne Enright, Hugo Hamilton, Claire Kilroy and Colm Tóibín
Shot by the young Irish photographer Rich Gilligan, it aims to build a greater international awareness of Irish writing and its writers.
Speaking about the Postcards from the Edge project, the director of Ireland Literature Exchange, Sinéad Mac Aodha, said: "It is this organisation's job to spread the good news about modern Irish writing and to make sure our great literature continues to be known and appreciated. These beautiful photographs by Richard Gilligan will help us to achieve this goal."
The postcards, which are free will be available at international book fairs in places such as Frankfurt, Moscow, Guadalajara and Beijing, and will also be available throughout Ireland's network of embassies around the world.
