Netwatch launches in the US with new Boston HQ

17.02.2012

Taoiseach Enda Kenny TD has officially launched Carlow-based company Netwatch in the US, which involves a €3m investment and the creation of 50 jobs over the next 18 months.

Thirty jobs will be created between its Boston and Carlow operations by the end of 2012, bringing total employment to over 120 people.  Kathleen O’Toole, the former Boston Chief of Police has joined the Netwatch Board and is helping the company’s drive into the US market.

“Harnessing modern technologies, Netwatch has changed the way security and protection services are provided to private individuals and to companies. It is now bringing this game changing-technology to North America with its establishment in Boston,” the Taoiseach said.

“Netwatch is a prime example of the potential of Irish services companies to become multinational companies, creating jobs and wealth not only for Ireland but also for Boston.”

Netwatch provides rea- time remote security monitoring to businesses and private residences in Ireland and internationally.  All monitoring of the US sites will be undertaken by intervention specialists at Netwatch’s Irish headquarters in Carlow.

As the business grows in the US, the company will also establish a communications hub for North America in Boston.

Netwatch chief executive David Walsh said: “In the past three months, we have successfully won a number of contracts in the greater Boston area, including providing protection services to Toyota Falmouth, one of the premier Toyota dealerships in Cape Cod.”

He also announced that the Massachusetts Port Authority, which operates Logan International Airport and the Port of Boston, is piloting the Netwatch Security System.  “Logan Airport was the departure airport for two of the airplanes hijacked on 9/11 and security is a priority for the Massachusetts Port Authority."

In addition to Ireland and North America, Netwatch also has a presence in the UK market.

Enterprise Ireland has worked closely with the company since it set up in 2003 to support its internationalisation and export growth in North America and the UK.
